ASSESSMENT OF YOUR LEARNING

The following will be used to assess your learning in the course:

1. Five Quizzes based on readings and class work.

Total Weighting = 50%

Each quiz will check mastery of the unit just completed.  Instructor- and/or publisher- supplied materials will assist students in identifying content and skills to be tested.  With the exception of the last quiz (during Finals), one retake for each quiz is permitted.

2. Other Assignments.

Total Weighting = 45%

Requirements and scoring for assignments are detailed on another page and in separate handouts and instructions.

3.  Final Comprehensive Questions taken from a list provided by Al.

Total Weighting = 5%
GRADING: The percentage of possible points you earn on each quiz and assignment will be computed.  A weighted average of these percentage scores will determine your semester grade.  If, at any time, you have a question about your average, be sure to check with the instructor. Your course grade will be assigned according to following scale:

A  = 93-100%     A- = 90-92%
B+ = 87-89%      B   = 83-86%     B-  = 80-82%
C+ = 77-79%      C   = 73-76%     C-  = 70-72%
D+ = 67-69%      D   = 60-66%
F  = Below 60%

Incomplete grades are granted only in cases of extended illness/hospitalization or similar circumstances.
Any student with a special need requiring instructional accommodation should contact the Instructor on the first day of classes.
Cheating, Plagiarism, etc.: As of Fall, 2003, Gustavus students and faculty are operating under an honor system.  The code for this system states, "On my honor, I pledge that I have not given, received, nor tolerated others' use of unauthorized aid in completing this work."  This code will apply to all graded work you complete for EDU 330. You are referred to the Honor Code Policy and the statement on academic integrity.  Be sure to review the section on plagiarism before writing your papers.  The expectation is that you are doing your own work, whether it be on tests or assignments.  Academic dishonesty can result in a zero for the work in question or failure for the course.  If you have questions concerning this policy, please ask Al.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES

Although the semester grade is not computed by counting classes missed, class attendance is expected and recorded. Unnecessarily missing class is not fair to yourself or to the other students who depend on your contributions.  As teachers, you will not have an option of skipping class; school districts want to hire reliable employees.  Assessment of your learning (quizzes) will include content from the text, class presentations, and discussions. It is the learner's responsibility to check with other students and/or the instructor for missed notes or handouts or assignments.  Attendance on test days is required.  Even if you do not feel prepared for a test, give it a try anyway.  It will help you prepare for the retake. If illness or absence from campus causes you to miss the scheduled quiz, you will have only one attempt at that quiz (at the scheduled retake time).
